Great find! Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liquid Liner in Navy Shock

Hello Lovelies!

Today I wanted to share with you a great find. I had to rush into Walgreens a few days ago to pick up some last minute things and some much needed Ibuprofen. The makeup section was to the left when you walk into the store and everything I needed was to the right. What did I do? Yep, I quickly steered myself to the left. “It’ll just be a few minutes.” A few things caught my eye. One, they are now selling Soap & Glory products. I have not tried any myself but I have heard good things about the brand.

The second, and the reason for this post, was this Revlon Skinny liquid liner. What really drew me to this particular product was the fact that it was navy blue. I’ve always liked the idea of using navy blue as an eyeliner. It’s dark enough to really frame my eyes, but it is also a subtle pop of color. Win! I tried this the very next day.

The applicator is very nice, and thin, just as the name suggests. It is also a bit long so you can really lay down flat for application. My only complaint is that I think it picks up more product that I can handle for initial application. To get around this I will simply clean some off the excess against the edge of the bottle. That way I can control how much product I use. I guess it may be a problem for us that are somewhat new to the liquid liner world. The color, Navy Shock is dark and very pigmented. It has a bit of a shinny finish, so that may not be everyone’s cup of tea.

I like to apply it on it’s own, or over the top of black to give it more depth. When I do the latter it has the neat effect of adding something extra. Like it makes you do a double take – at first glance it might not look like much, but then you start to see the blue peak through. So, there you have it. If you love basics but are looking for a little pop of color with good staying power, the Revlon Colorstay Skinny Liner might be just the thing you are looking for.

I’m curious. Have you guys tried Soap & Glory products? What are you favorite eyeliner colors?

The A-List: MAC Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul

IMG_2011

Up close and personal with MAC’s Warm Soul blush.

You know how you have those tried and true products that you reach for during specific seasons? Well, for me the Summer has not officially started until I pull out MAC’s Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul. I’ve had this for a couple of years and I have barely made a dent on it. It literally warms my heart, soul and cheekbones. Let’s look at why I love this product so much. Shall we?

Warm Soul Mineralize Blush by MAC.

As with all of MAC’s  mineralize line, the formula of this blush is beautiful. Super soft, fine milled powder that melts into your skin. The pigmentation is also really good, especially because this is advertised as a sheer product that can be build up. On me this looks like a peachy brown with a luminous finish. I love to use this as an every day blush because it looks natural, but also because it does double duty as a cheek highlighter. In terms of wear, I find that this will last a good 6 hours on me before it starts to fade. However, because this blush has gold pearl throughout, I find that the highlighting effects lasts longer. I particularly like the fact that this complements my bronzer as it is not a bright, colorful contrast. My preferred method of application is using this angled brush by Morphe (E4).

Best combo! Morphe’s E4 and MAC’s Warm Soul

I also think this color would look really nice on a lot of skin tones, but especially on medium/tan skin tones. As you can see, there’s still a lot of product left so I will have this in my collection for a little longer. It’s a good thing I love this so much!

Have you tried this blush? What is your favorite Summer blush?

To Bento or not…

Fit & Fresh lunch gear options

Some of you may be aware that it is back to school time. I have not been this aware of that fact since my college days, quite a few years ago. But alas, you have kids and “back to school” is bound to catch up with again. This is particularly tricky for me because Alex is not even three yet. We decided to move him from his current day care to a school with a more structured program. Many of you may have heard, or be familiar with the Montessori program, and we believe this will be better fit for Alex since he will be getting more personalized attention. He won’t start school for a few more days, but if I’m honest, I am very anxious about the transition. Ah, Mommy woes!

Anyhow, I happened to be browsing the back to school section by Target*, in complete denial that my baby was sort of going-to-school this year when I stumbled upon these lunch boxes. I wanted to share them with you in case you were looking for ideas. These are both options from a company called Fit & Fresh. The Mini Bento caught my eye because I thought it would be allow me to send Alex with a full, varied meal in one container. I think kids like the concept of having their food not mixed together. My hope is that this also allows me to do some portion control – not send too little or too much. The Hot Lunch Bowl is great because I can provide Alex a warm/lukewarm meal option given that we are not allowed to send food that needs to be re-heated. The challenge now is to find some yummy, healthy and balanced meals since this will be the first time we have to provide his lunch. I’ll have a post update for you guys later.

I also wanted to show you Alex’s favorite water bottles. Most of them are Camelbacks. These are my personal favorites because they have really neat patterns, are spill proof are easy to carry. Alex likes to hold them but the handle, which I think is cute. Te Buzz Lightyear bottle is really nice too, just a bit smaller. We like to use the Miles from Tomorrowland one because it has an attachment that can be used to store snacks. So you get a two-for-the-space-of-one bottle kind of deal. 🙂

My favorite Summer blushes

When it come to makeup and the Summer months I think of beautiful glowy, bronzed skin, and blushed from within cheeks. Here are my favorite blushes to help me achieve the Summer beauty from within look.

IMG_2005
From top to bottom: Hourglass Diffused Heat, Nars Deep Throat, MAC Warm Soul and Milani Lumioso.

As you can tell by the picture above,  I tend to gravity towards the peachy-pink blushes for the Summer. I think they are incredibly complementary to my tan skin tone. I love these blushed because they have great color pay off and last a really long time. None of them is advertised as long-lasting, and blush is one of the first things that tends to disappear throughout the day. However, I use a setting spray to increase the longevity of my makeup, especially in the Summer, and this has helped tremendously.  Every once in a while I catch myself thinking, “Wow, I can still see the blush!”

There is no particular order or ranking, I love these equally, even though some are fairly new to my collection.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush is Diffused Heat: Hourglass describes this color as a vibrant poppy. At first glance I thought this blush would be too bright for me, but I was SO wrong. The pigmentation is amazing! What really surprised me was how natural it looked on my skin. The fact that this blush is combined with Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Powder adds dimension to this blush as well as a pretty glow. This is the type of blush that I reach for in the morning when I don’t want to spend time on the extra step of highlighting. (Some mornings it’s like a race against the clock…) This product retails for $38 but I think this is money well spent given the color payoff and the multi-tasking use.

NARS Blush in Deep Throat ($38): Again, another peachy color with very subtle shimmer. This was my first high end blush purchase and I feel like I will still have this around a couple more years. This blush does not get the recognition it deserves, mostly overshaddowed by NARS Orgasm. But I think this is a much better option for those of you that are not into the more glittery blushes or those of you that prefer Matte blushes but want to try something a little more glowy. Yes, there is some shimmer, but it is very subtle. You need to try it!

Top-to-bottom: Hourglass Diffused Heat, Milani Luminous, MAC Warm Soul and NARS Deep Throat.

Milani’s  Baked Blush in Luminoso: As the name suggests, this blush gives your cheeks a luminous glow. This blush has a satin finish and it is also very pigmented. If you are looking for that flushed cheek look this is an option to consider. You can not as for a better price point ($9) and the quality is actually really nice. This is the newest addition to my collection but it has quickly become on of my go-to blushes.

MAC’s Mineralize Blush in Warm Soul ($28):  MAC describes this blush as a mid-tone beige with gold pearl. This is the “darkest” peachy blush of the bunch but I love to use this blush in the Summer, especially as my skin gets darker/tanned. I particularly love to use this blush in combination with my bronzer.  I feel that it highlights my cheeks while a enhancing my tanned skin. This is another blush that I have had for ever and it’s still going strong.

On thing I would say, before I let you guys go, is that I do use these year round. I tend to have specific items that I like to use on particular seasons, but I will gladly reach for any of these in the dead cold of Winter. I may be freezing but these make me think of Summer and it warms my heart.

Please let me know what your favorite Summer blushes are, or if you own or try any of these.

Long-lasting Summer Makeup

Hello Lovelies!

It has been SO hot in the Mid-Atlantic! For the past two weeks we have had heat index temperatures past 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Being a Caribbean girl has not really made me feel about this heat. I can’t get past that muggy, sticky feeling and I just want to hibernate in my basement. But, alas, there’s things to do and places to see. These kinds of days call for makeup heroes – products that will not succumb to the pressure of that comes with unbearable heat.

IMG_1807
My Summer makeup must have’s.

My heat proof, melt proof, Summer foundation is Estee Lauder Double Wear. This has quickly replaced my MAC Face and Body because it is SO long lasting. I just use a very small amount and stipple it onto my skin with a beauty blender. This provide a great amount of coverage without making me feel like I have a mask on. One of the things that I like about this foundation is that I don’t have to set it with powder. I do apply a small amount on my T-zone because that is where I tend to get oily throughout the day.

I have been alternating between a few blushes. One of them is MAC’s Gingerly. Now, this is a blush that I prefer to use in the Fall, but I made the mistake of pulling it out of “storage” and I can’t stop reaching for it. I also like to use MAC’s Shaping powder in Lightsweep. This give me a very subtle and natural highlight that just melts into my skin when I apply it with a damp beauty blender. I think it pairs nicely with the blush (matte) as it give your cheekbones nice dimension. My favorite brush to use for blush is the Morphe E4. It is super soft, I like the angled shape, and I like how it deposits the right amount of product. You can’t go wrong if you use this brush.

For brows, well, there’s Benefit’s Gimme Brow. I’ve talked about this guys before. My brows stay  in place all day while still looking natural. Kat von D’s Tattoo eyeliner is amazing! I love how it is highly pigmented – super black, I love how easy it is to use and I love that it stays on all day. Lastly, the Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Eyeliner. I had tried Marc Jacob’s Fineliner and was curious to try this one. I like to use this in my upper waterline. I find that it does move a little bit as the day progresses, but for the price point, I think it’s a really good product.

IMG_1990
The lipstick has faded but the rest of my face has not budged.

I thought I’d also throw in my absolute favorite Spring/Summer perfume. Marc Jacob’s Daisy has a bright and fresh scent. I find it perfect for every day and it also lasts a long time. I get whiffs of it throughout the day. A bonus is the packaging. Isn’t it super cute?

So, there you have it, my long-lasting Summer makeup.

What are your favorite, Summer proof products?

It’s been a hot minute…

Hello Lovelies!

This is going to be a super quick post to… let you know I’m still alive. Ok, that sounds a little dramatic but I realize it’s been at least a month since my last post. What happened? Well, to be honest I really needed a break. I felt overwhelmed with all the things I had on my plate. I didn’t want to write for the sake of writing, and then have a poor quality post for you all. “It’ll be just for a week.” One stomach bug, one cold, family-in-town-for-a-weekend, one week on business travel and three doctor visits later, and here we are. Phew… Ok, so life happens and you roll with the punches as best as you can, right? I have to say that I have missed posting and I have, what I hope to be, really good posts coming up. So, thank you for staying with me through this “sabbatical” break. I hope everyone has been enjoying the summer and staying cool! Man, for being a Caribbean girl I sure don’t like theses 100 degree weather days.

Love you all!
Lulu

How have you been spending your Summer? What fun things have you guys done this past month? Me? Well, El Hub and I went on a tour of Camden Yards and we got to see the view the players have of the ball park.
